So it turns out that what the public really trusts is whatever journalists tell them about science. This is why it is so important to do everything we can to support good science journalism, and to resist the temptation to contribute to poor efforts by overly sensationalizing our own work when speaking to journalists about it.

Now, is that really fair? Or more importantly, is that really journalism? It seems that more journalists, in the effort to be the first to the press, are skipping the interviews of friends and families and turning more to finding out what they can on the web. The reason I ask if it’s fair: How many of you would like to have your legacy defined by what’s in your Facebook profile?

A former journalist, I don’t have the first clue what goes into writing or soliciting advertising copy. You see, there’s supposed to be this “wall” in journalism that separates advertising from editorial, not that Fox News has ever heard of it.
