So the question I’m left with is, if Yahoo execs are not really using Flickr in a Web 2.0 sort of way personally, can we really expect them to understand the tremendous innovation that Flickr represents for Web 2.0 in general? If they don’t “get it” first hand. If they don’t eat their own dogfood, so to speak, can we really expect them to truly take Flickr and social sharing in general where it needs to go?

I was at the grocery store this weekend, and there was a rack of Beanie Babies 2.0 with giant “play online!” tags hanging on them. It may be that this is the death of “Web 2.0,” when it gets co-opted for Beanie Babies.

The web2.0 era is far from over – the recent global recession however has flagged though that the pioneers of the industry are looking for something new. As the mainstream is rejuvenated by web2.0 like the Valley was not too long ago, it’s time to now look for what the next big thing will be. Innovation on the web apparently flattening. Perhaps it has – but the seeds of the next generation of innovation the web are already here.

At some point the real world of dollars and cents will rear its ugly head in this warm and fuzzy world of freenomics and Web 2.0. Sure there will always be another startup for these folks to run to but at what point will even the early adopters say enough is enough .. quit wasting our time and energy.

Facebook is the AOL for web 2.0. Sooner or later people are going to want their own Wall, and in my opinion this is exactly what Twitter is. Twitter is THE wall for people who want more from a wall.

Web 2.0 successes were mostly about a single feature (photos, bookmarks, video, phone, blogging, etc) where there was extremely rapid adoption by consumers. Semantic Web is inherently about integration and those plays tend to be different, longer and much bigger potential.
